HR Director


Reporting into the CEO and as a key member of the Executive Team, the role holder will provide subject matter expertise across the whole employee lifecycle, embedding a long-term people strategy to address both strategic and operational aspects of HR.  There is an expectation to contribute to and be accountable on a broader basis, providing leadership, opinion and direction in defining the future strategy and growth of the business.

This individual is expected to own company culture and guide the management team towards best practices that result in Semafone staying consistent to its core values (Trust, Vigilance, Innovation, Passion, Stretch and Collaboration) through demonstration of its core competencies and behaviours. 

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Devising and applying appropriate practices and strategies for talent acquisition in order to ensure that Semafone’s hiring needs and goals are met
  • Coaching and partnering the executive team and managers on all HR-related matters (e.g. employee relations, talent management, career development) providing training where required.
  • Working closely with Finance to ensure hiring strategies are in line with company budgets and amending as appropriate
  • Owning all HR policies and supporting in wider business policies, amending in line with updated legislation
  • Working closely with department heads on organisational structure and change initiatives to ensure headcount is best placed at all times to support the company vision. 
  • Gaining trust and credibility within the company and across continents to build influential and collaborative relationships between managers and employees
  • Reviewing and building programs that support the company’s goals and increase employee performance and engagement (e.g. surveys, reward and recognition initiatives, internal and external events)
  • Ensuring HR policies, processes and employment contracts are kept up to date with best practice and current legislation
  • Be aware of the mood of the company and teams or individuals and advise the Executive Team if actions need to be taken
  • Ensuring the Performance Review Process is appropriate and enhance or amend where necessary to keep it in line with the Semafone Vision.
  • Manage compensation and benefit planning, including harmonising existing salaries, implementing competitive pay scales and developing competitive packages for high-value hires.
  • Overseeing relevant training and development options for employees in line with agreed development plans and business requirements
  • Devising specific training programmes to support groups as required e.g. management training
  • Championing the Company values and the behaviours we hope to see across the organisation
  • Responsible for crisis management and conflict resolution
  • Overseeing all employee relations initiatives including disciplinary, capability/performance and grievance procedures
  • Reviewing and devising people analytics to enable more evidence-based decision making
  • Lead and develop the HR Team
  • Any other ad hoc tasks required from time to time (e.g participating in internal forums, such as Health & Safety and organisation of company-wide initiatives such as off-sites and employee entertainment)

Key Competencies

  • Exceptional written and spoken communication skills
  • A high energy individual, able to multi-task and perform well under pressure  
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office
  • Previous experience of using and identifying internal SaaS programmes
  • Great attention to detail
  • Ability to build strong relationships based on trust and influence at all levels
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise key tasks that will contribute to the success of the company
  • Ability to listen – a self-starter and a team player

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • CIPD qualification or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience working in a Software and/or Telecommunications environment, preferably within an SME
  • Extensive experience of direct-hire recruitment and associated ATS packages and social media tools
  • Extensive experience in the practical application of UK employment law
  • Experience in a Senior HR Leadership role at Executive level
  • Experience in leading and developing a team of HR professionals

Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Experience of US Employment law
  • Experience working for a global company
  • Experience working for a security organization
  • Prior experience of sponsorship of employment for non-national employees (both UK and US)
