Quality Assurance (Telephony) Engineer

Overall Responsibilities   

As a Quality Assurance Engineer you will be responsible for reviewing quality specifications and technical design documentation to provide meaningful feedback to the Software Engineering Team.

Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing tests, debugging and defining corrective actions.  You will also review system requirements and track quality assurance metrics.

The QA Engineer role plays an important part in our company’s product development process.  

Our ideal candidate will have an excellent understanding of telephony software engineering, ideally with some experience of coding, be passionate about producing high quality software, ensuring it runs smoothly and meets client’s needs.  

The Team

Our QA team sits at the centre of our service-oriented platform and is comprised of a team of five, including a team lead, 3 test engineers and a telephony expert.   As one of four teams totalling over 20 engineers, they are responsible for the quality of our products and services to meet client needs.

There are several exciting new product enhancements in the pipeline for this growing team to work on over the next few months – these include greenfield development of a whole new product direction as well as adding new functionality to the existing products with the potential opportunity to re-design and re-write. Whilst these are ongoing the team will also maintain and modernise our existing platform with a strong focus on refactoring and removing technical debt that has accumulated over time and dealing with BAU support issues that crop up from time to time, security improvements and response to vulnerabilities.

We really want you to have the ability and willingness to go the extra mile to meet many tight deadlines, and careful attention to detail is required to ensure the applications produced are reliable. Good communication skills and a professional attitude is vital as your help may be required when supporting the products during or after installation in the field.

Ideally you will have an interest in producing systems for the finance or payment industry, with an appreciation of suitable security, encryption and resilience for such systems.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Working with the QA Lead, project managers, technical leads and subject matter experts to plan and execute manual tests.
  • Work with business requirements to derive fit-for-purpose test scripts and run tests.
  • Maintain concise records and test documentation and utilise current tools utilised by the testing team such as JIRA, test rail to manage the testing process.
  • Logging and monitoring progress of raised defects. At times progressing fault resolution with the Programmers to aid resolution.
  • Working alongside other testers as part of a team
  • Aiding the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Helping provide design and user documentation
  • Liaising and providing feedback within the team
  • Demonstrate innovation and passion towards work
  • Flexibility to go the extra mile and perform extra work to complete the job
  • Desire to learn and stretch, keeping up to date with the latest trends and using these to drive product enhancements

Requirements

  • Technical tester with strong Linux operating system skills
  • Experience testing Telephony message and call flows with SIP
  • Experience testing IP voice telephony systems
  • Experience in setup, configuration and maintenance of Linux test environments
  • Demonstrated experience in voice communications hardware and software maintenance in an enterprise environment
  • Knowledge of Postman
  • Web API testing experience
  • Experience with defect reporting and tracking tools such as JIRA, Testrail.
  • Write concise, complete, well organised defect reports, test cases, and status reports
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Work with supervisors to evaluate and recommend enhancements, document QA processes and improve best testing practices
  • Experience with Open Source platforms such as Kamailio, Asterisk, SIPP etc
  • Ability to build VoIP test environments and scenarios using a variety of scripting and open source tools.
  • IP networking experience in order to test and build specific network scenarios.
