Objective of the Role

The mission of the role is to manage the IT and corporate infrastructure environment operating under ISO 27001, PCI and ITIL frameworks. This involves safeguarding and monitoring the Semafone hardware and software estate across 4 offices (Guildford, London, Boston and Canberra) and Data Centres. Semafone is a business operating in the Data Security space and as such demands extremely high levels of competence. This role works very closely with our Security and Platforms teams.

The role currently manages;

  • Senior Infrastructure Engineer
  • Infrastructure & Client Services Specialist
  • IT & Infrastructure Support Apprentice

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


  • Service Desk/Incident Management/Service Request fulfilment
  • Change and Release Management
  • Asset management and automation
  • Client Build Systems and Process – WDS, Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot
  • Mobile Device Management
  • Client Security Management (Antivirus tools, email protection, device hardening)

EUC Management

Email and Telephony

  • Office 365 Administration (includes Exchange Administration, DLP Configuration and General Security Hardening).
  • Drive the adoption and increase awareness about Sharepoint, OneDrive and MS Teams
  • Support configuring and adopting MS Project
  • Skype for Business/MS Teams Management
  • Email Protection (Mimecast, Transport Encryption and Messaging Encryption)
  • Working across the business to adopt SSO for multiple business SaaS applications
  • Linux Administration
  • Security (Two Factor Auth), Linux Hardening best practises
  • CDN
  • WAF
  • Next-Gen Firewalls
  • SD-WAN
  • WAN, Dynamic routing protocols
  • Client VPNs
  • Switches
  • Links (Internet, IPSec VPNs, V/MPLS)
  • Wireless convergence and security
  • Active Directory Administration and Configuration (Including DNS)
  • DUO Proxy Administration and Configuration (Linux and Windows)
  • Windows Server; NPS Servers, Active Directory Servers, LDAP PROXY Servers, Licensing Servers
  • Windows RDS Servers for Application Virtualization
  • Windows and Linux Automation (Deployment and Administration)
  • Infrastructure Monitoring: PRTG Administration and Configuration
  • Linux Servers Administration and Configuration
  • NAS Servers Administration and Configuration
  • Hyper-V and NAS Backups


Network Infrastructure

IT Infrastructure Services

  • Identity Management: Azure AD, Hybrid AD, Conditional Access, MFA
  • Data Management Services (Shares, Groups, Access Permissions, Audit)
  • Disaster Recovery and Backup Operations

Key Competencies

  • Recent experience of adopting Cloud PaaS and IaaS services (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience of VMware, Windows Active Directory, O365 and networking
  • Experience of cloud technology for provision of business services
  • Experience working under IT governance frameworks such as ITIL and ISO27000
  • Knowledge of network, database and communications software and hardware systems

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Degree level education or similar
  • Experience of managing a small team
  • Experience of working with “remote hands” organisations for overseas offices.
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • Windows Server Technologies
    • Windows Hypervisor Technology
    • Active Directory
    • Microsoft DNS, NPS, Proxy, RDS
    • Office 365
    • Email, DNS, MX and transport protocols
    • Voice technology
    • Networking
    • Security and Cybersecurity and general experience in securing Networks, Servers, Firewalls and All other endpoints
  • Experience with Linux

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of AMAZON AWS, security and hardening
  • Knowledge of Data Centres and experience in building one
