Platform Architect

As a key senior technical role, the Platform Architect has a proven track record in designing, implementing and trouble-shooting technical solutions. The individual is customer facing with broad and deep technical skills, strong communication capabilities and a dynamic, pragmatic approach. 

Responsible for the identification, design, procurement, delivery and onward maintenance of platforms required as part of business strategy, in a cost-effective way. You will technically lead a small team to deliver to the strategic goals of the company along with inputting into the strategy.

 In addition to owning the overall technical design of projects, the Platform Architect also acts as a subject matter expert, collaborating with other Technical Architects and engineers to provide consultative input to their projects, as well as having designs reviewed with the Chief Architect.

 The Platform Architect is responsible for successful delivery of every platform phase, including design, implementation, integration, troubleshooting and handover to the customer, partners and internal support. Platform Architects will also be required to provide assistance to the Pre-Sales team on occasion. 

 The successful candidate is expected to be well rounded in networking, telephony, virtualization and system administration functions and they will be expected to gain experience of all aspects of Semafone product, expanding their knowledge to cover security, applications and cloud technologies. 


  •  Able to design and build new platforms from the ground up, integrating carrier level telephony and networking with the Semafone product
  • Maintaining and managing enhancements on the existing platforms.
  • Owning the technical engagement with the 3rd party programs
  • Managing and enhancing the platform management through increasing use of automation (VMWare, Ubuntu, JumpServers, VPNs, Firewalls and Switches)
  • Experience with ISO27001 and/or PCI-DSS preferred
  • Managing both live issues and project work within the same team.
  • Managing the ongoing and increasing VPLS and global networking requirements to keep teams working effectively across all platforms.
  • Support the work to ensure platforms work to reference design specifications.
  • Accountable for ensuring that Semafone’s platform designs meet our clients’ current and future functional and non-functional needs
  • Participate, where required in the Semafone Design Authority forum and processes, which ensure design is holistically considered from an application, infrastructure and operational support perspective
  • Own and develop the platform architecture model and associated architecture principles and standards to ensure repeatable, predictable, cost effective quality solutions are delivered to customer and Semafone’s timescales, functional and financial expectations
  • Be involved in and promote Semafone’s product strategy and drive forward internally and externally
  • Be actively involved in new product development, prototyping and documenting new functionality, technical solutions and testing strategies
  • Support product and solution design documentation as required and requested
  • Engage with third parties to expand our technical horizons, staying in tune with the market trends and available technologies
  • Provide expertise to Semafone and our clients in PA DSS & PCI DSS compliance
  • Pre-sales support, webinars, conference calls and site visits as requested and required throughout the sales life cycle


 Skills and Knowledge - Essential

  • 5 or more years of Experience within Carrier network or telephony market place.
  • 5 or more years of experience in leading the architecting and delivering platforms
  • Strong communication skills and process management skills will enable you to drive our delivery process both internally and externally
  • Lead a team of non-customer engineers through the use of Jira or other ticketing system
  • Production of high quality documentation for both internal and external facing audiences
  • Any form of Linux whether it is Redhat, Ubuntu, Fedora, or Debian etc.
  • Experience of building and maintaining DNS, LDAP, NTP and other assorted Linux based supplementary services.
  • Windows 2012 Server or Citrix experience a benefit to support limited jump servers.
  • ESXI VMWare experience, in managing VCentre and Hypervisors.
  • VOIP Infrastructure – PBX, ACD, Session Border Controllers (SBC), Voice Gateways (e.g. Cisco ISR’s), Soft Switches (e.g. Asterisk), Proxies, B2BUA.   Including TLS encryption.
  • VOIP protocols / codecs – SIP, RTP, DTMF, RFC2833, G711, G729, etc.
  • CTI integration – TAPI, JTAPI, SIP based, agent desktop customisation, soft phones, attached data, call event models, web services based CTI integration
  • Network Protocols – IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, NTP, HTTP, HTTPS, IPSEC, LDAP, SSH


 Skills and Knowledge - Preferable

  •  Delivering ISO27001, PA DSS & PCI DSS solutions
