QA Test Team Lead


The Role

We are looking for an experienced QA Test Lead to provide leadership, organisation and control of the testing process to deliver the quality of software that Semafone requires. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a small QA team, defining Test Strategies, Test Processes, Test Plans, and hands-on technical expertise with Manual/Automated Test execution for secure card payment software deliverables.

 The scope of the team’s test responsibilities include:

  • Semafone software Installation/Integration testing,
  • Semafone software release testing,
  • New Feature testing,
  • Performance, scalability and non-functional testing.
  • Patch Regression testing (ESXI, OS, Semafone application). 


  • Define, document and control how the test team will align its activities to achieve the current product development and future product roadmap.
  • Work with Project Managers to provide input into the planning process.
  • Analysing and defining the scope of testing within the context of each release / delivery.
  • Analysing, defining and implementing appropriate test cases and metrics to ensure testing aims are met.
  • Make use of automated test methods and techniques to sustain test processes and procedures.
  • Attend design meetings, review software requirements / design documents and cascade information to the QA team
  • Preparing Test Strategies, Test Plans, Test Cases and Test Summary Reports
  • Supporting various inhouse teams (Development/Support) to deliver products as planned
  • Lead test planning activities for test case design and implementation.
  • Monitor progress against the plan and initiate mitigating actions to keep plans on track.
  • Assess risk and initiate mitigation actions to minimise unwanted situations.
  • Communicate test progress and status to stakeholders.
  • Identify metrics/measurements by which to assess the quality and activities of the test team.
  • Identify and implement tools for test reporting, test management, test automation and ensure that the test team knows how to use them. 
  • Act as line manager, mentor and tutor to the test team at Semafone.  
  • Conduct regular performance reviews with team members and work with them to produce personal development plans. 


Candidate requirements

Required Experience:

  • Experience of test strategy definition and tactical implementation of testing processes in a multi-technology product scenario.
  • Ability to define software test environments, software test cases and test data requirements.
  • Hands-on working experience with VM-ware, ESXi for creating virtual/complex test environments
  • Automation with Python-PExpect, Selenium and Unix
  • Hands-on Manual and Automation testing
  • Component, System, Integration, User Acceptance testing experience
  • Testing API's using ReadyAPI and web based software deliverables
  • Experience of Java, Jenkins, Gitlab
  • Working across technologies under the Ubuntu/Linux OS
  • Experience of managing medium/small QA teams

 Desirable Experience:

  • Understanding of processes and testing PCI-DSS / PA-DSS products
  • Payment cards industry experience, especially Payment Service Providers
  • Exposure to Telephony/IVR
  • Hands-on experience of PExpect and ReadyAPI
